Mr. Cobb passed peacefully and quietly away surrounded by his family who were present at the last hour of his life. Joseph Cobb was born in the state of New Jersey in 1833, and with his parents moved to the state of New York and in the year 1854 at the age of 21 years he married Louisa Curtis. In the year 1860 they together moved to Michigan to seek a home and first settled in the township of Easton from there moving to Orleans where they operated a farm for several years and finally sold out, coming to Otisco township where he has resided in Belding and vicinity for about 25 years, and has seen this city develop from a very small hamlet to its present growth. Mr. Cobb enlisted shortly after the civil war broke out and was a member of the 2nd Michigan Infantry and remained until the close. Five children were born to them, four of whom are living, Silas, Willis and Adelbert Cobb of this city and Mrs. Etta Wright of Otisco. His first wife died in February 1902 and he was again married to Melissa Hull June 14, ’05 and was very happily settled to enjoy his declining years but his sudden taking away is but another example of how brittle is the thread of life. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at his late residence where many floral offerings were sent by friends. Rev. J.W. Sheehan of the M.E. church officiated and he was laid to rest in the family lot in the Otisco cemetery.
