Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, Oct. 10, 1889

                             SO EARLY CUT DOWN
Mr. R. Cochrane received word on Saturday evening of the death of his son, 
John B., at Brompton, Ont., where he went about ten weeks ago, hoping to 
improve his health.

John Brompton Cochrane was born at Fingal, Elgin county, Ontario, and at the 
time of his death was 25 years of age. For some time before coming to Ionia, 
three years ago, he was engaged in railroad work, holding good positions on 
the Union Pacific, and later on the Michigan Central, being obliged to 
retire by reason of sickness. On recovery he entered the office of the 
Cochrane & Miller Furniture company as shipping clerk.

At the fire at the factory a year ago he became thoroughly drenched and it 
being a cold day it is believed the exposure was the remote cause of his 
early decline. 

He spent some time in Washington territory, then returned home, and his 
health becoming worse he went to Brantford as before stated. At first he 
improved, but about a month ago, his condition being worse, his mother went 
there and was with him until his death. He was a  young man of many 
excellent qualities and of marked ability, especially in railroad work, 
which it was his desire to engage in.

Mrs. Cochrane will arrive here with his remains at 9:40 this evening. The 
funeral will be attended from the residence on East Washington street, at 
3:30 tomorrow afternoon, Rev. Geo. D. Lindsay officiating. Interment at 
Highland Park.
