Coe, Sr., 80, seriously ill at her home at 212 East Washington street for many months, died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Coe had been critically ill since last October and her family had been constantly at her side since. A life long resident of Ionia county, Mrs. Coe was born January 24, 1881 in Easton township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Chauncey Christian. Her father was superintendent of the Ionia state hospital farm 25 years. Mrs. Coe resided at her parents’ home at the time of her marriage, May 10, 1898 to George H. Coe of Berlin township. She attended school in Ionia. Active throughout her life in civic affairs and women’s groups, Mrs. Coe was a charter member of the Bethany Circle of the First Christian church. She has belonged to the First Presbyterian church for many years and active in its circles, including the Martha Circle. She also was an honorary member of the Women’s Literary club, the Marsh hospital guild and WCTU. In 1915 Mr. and Mrs. Coe moved to Ionia where Mr. Coe became identified with the automobile business. They have lived here since. Mr. Coe died October 7, 1958. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. Dall Hutchinson of Dearborn, who has been with her mother for several months during her illness; two sons, George H. Coe, Jr., and Orson E. Coe, both Ionia automobile agency businessmen; a sister Mrs. Harriet Perrett of Orange and a brother, Earle Christian of Lansing and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday at the First Presbyterian church of Ionia. Interment will be at the family lot at Sunset Memorial Gardens south of Ionia. The Rev. Wilfred G. Sawyier, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will officiate. The body will be at Boynton funeral home until Saturday noon when it will be taken to the church. A memorial fund is being established for the cancer society. There will be a family memorial for the church and the hospital.
