Death of Rev. J. M. Coe, a State Pioneer. Rev. J. M. Coe, residing in South Ionia, died quite suddenly about 11 o’clock last night. He had been suffering with the grippe, but had recuperated and was able to attend the funeral of John B. Hutchins, on Monday afternoon. His friends did not become alarmed until yesterday, when a physician was summoned, who expressed the opinion that he would not live 24 hours, and within an hour he was dead. Mr. Coe was born in Montgomery county N. Y., Aug. 24, 1810. He had only limited school advantages. He came to Michigan in 1830, locating at Farmington, Oakland county. He made profession of religion in 1832, joining the Baptist church, in which denomination he was ordained a minister in 1839. He held a pastorate in Oakland county, but has not been in active ministerial service for many years. He came to Ionia eighteen or twenty years ago. Mr. Coe was married three times. His first wife died at Farmington, leaving one daughter, Lovica, who now resides at Pinckney this state. His second wife died at Rome, Lenawee county, leaving three children two sons, since deceased, and one daughter, Verona, married and residing in Pennsylvania. He married the wife who survived Feb. 18, 1868. Funeral tomorrow at 2 p.m. from residence on south side.
