Mrs. Maria Caroline Coe, 96, Portland’s oldest resident, died Monday evening at 
her home at 123 Albro street, Portland.  She came to Michigan from Indiana when 
she was eight years of age, in a covered wagon, and settled in West Sebewa and 
lived on a farm near Sunfield until the death of her husband, Alfred, in 1923.  
In 1924 she moved to Portland where she has since resided.  She was a member of 
the Dow Methodist church at Sebewa.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Gladys Coe and Miss Clarys Coe both of 
Portland; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Parkinson of Battle Creek, Mrs. Hattie Graft 
of Portland and Mrs. Eva Babbitt of Eagle.

Funeral service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Neller funeral 
home in Portland and interment will be at Sebewa cemetery.
