He was born on Dec. 6, 1902, in Silver Lake, Ind., the son of Samuel and Emma (Cook) Colbel. He married Myrtle Fiers on Oct. 15, 1926, in Grand Rapids. He had lived in Saranac for the last six years, and before his retirement, worked as a tool and die setter for Brown Corporation. He was a member of the Saranac Community Church. He is survived by his wife, one son, LaVern, of Saranac, one daughter, Mrs. Carlton (Joyce) Mercer, of Rockford, four sisters, Iva Dunffee, Tearl Weaver, Hazel Shank and Ruth Bolinger, all of Indiana, ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Greta Coulson, and several brothers. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the lake Funeral Home in Saranac with the Rev. Edwin Mendenhall officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Friends may call on the family at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Contributions may be made to the Saranac Community Church.
