All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sandy Heintzelman sheintz@iserv.net July 30, 2014, 10:29 pm Belding Banner-News, 25 Sep 1947 Death Comes Suddenly to Bill Coleman Prominent Sportsman and Industrialist Stricken in Chicago The entire community of Belding suffered a great loss Wednesday when William Coleman, 58, of this city, was stricken with a heart attack while attending a machinery show in Chicago with his business partner, Auburn VanSyoc, of the Belding Tool and Machine Co. The two had gone to Chicago by plane Tuesday. A native of Shaddock Falls, Vt., Mr. Coleman had resided in this city for nearly 35 years. He was an ardent sportsman, with hunting, fishing and flying among his favorite pastimes. He was a lieutenant colonel in the reserve, having served as an artillery officer in World War I, and in the Philippine campaigns prior to the first World war. For some time he had been a partner with Mr. VanSyoc and Carter Churchill in the Belding Tool and Machine Co. on S. Bridge street. Funeral arrangements, in charge of the Fales-Huffman Funeral Home are awaiting the outcome of the Red Cross to contact his eldest son, Nathan, who is stationed with the army at Nurenburg, Germany. Mr. Huffman will meet the 9:45 train from Chicago in Grand Rapids this evening which will bring the body from Chicago. The prominent industrialist is survived by his widow, Pearl, five daughters, Mrs. Delos Mills, Mrs. Wilford Shawley, Miss Lorraine Coleman, Miss Jeanette Coleman and Miss Judy Coleman, all of this city; four sons, Nathan (Bud) in Germany, and Kenneth, Richard and James, all at home; seven brothers and two sisters, all residing in the east.
