THE PORTLAND (MICHIGAN) OBSERVER, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1921: "David Coleman Passes Away at Home of Daughter in Ionia Last Thursday. - In the passing of David Edward Coleman, whose death occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Stevens of Ionia, last Thursday evening, Orange township looses one of its oldest settlers and most highly esteemed and well loved citizens. Mr. Coleman who was 92 years of age came to Orange township with his father when fifteen years of age and up to a few months ago, when he went to live with his daughter at Ionia, had always lived in the vicinity of what is known as Coleman's corners. Locating there when the country was a practical wilderness, he with others of the old pioneer stock devoted their efforts to reclaiming the land from nature, that they might in future years, enjoy the fruits of their earlier work. That this work was well done the present fine farms in that community testify. He was a brother of the late Eli Coleman and besides the daughter, Mrs. Stevens at Ionia is survived by a sister, Mrs. John Well, of Battle Creek, who is now 80 years of age. The funeral was held from the Portland Baptist church, Tuesday forenoon, in charge of Rev. DeVette. Interment was made in the Portland cemetery."
