He was born Aug. 18, 1918, the son of Roy M. and Mary Eva (VanSlyke) Colley in Ionia. He attended various schools in the area such as Mattison, Case, Jefferson, Emerson, Ionia High School, Muir High School, MSU, Western Michigan University, Kelloggs Institute, LaSalle Law School. He was active in many organizations: Ionia Masonic Lodge #36 acting as Past Master and Secretary for 20 years, Royal Arch Masons, Knights Templer, Lyons Eastern Star, Ionia Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Ionia County Historical Society, Ionia County Genealogical Society, Horseless Carriage Club of America, Flat River Antique Auto Club, member of First Christian Church of Muir where he was an Elder and Chairman of Membership and Evangelism, Trustee and Past President of Retired State Employee Association, President of Grand River Toastmasters Club, Director of Governmental Employees Credit Union for 20 years and President for five years, member of the Ronald Township Grange, past president of AFLCIO State Employees. Colley chaired the Ionia Sesquicentennial in 1973. He was the editor for the Horseless Carriage Gear Box Chatter Newsletter and the Flat River Antique Car Club Newsletter. He owned Ionia Radio and Television in 1940s and 1950s. He was an attendant for the Mental Health Dept., owner and broker of the Real Estate Specialists. He went on to marry Beulah Steele on June 19, 1943, in Ionia. He is survived by one son, Floyd Colley of Lansing; daughters, Janice and Dewey Burke of Ionia, Vicki and Lee Jockheck of Lyons; brother, Howard and Barbara Colley of Barryton; sister, Edith and James Trueblood of Ionia; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Colley was preceded in death by his son, Phil; brother, Jack and sister, Eva. Funeral services for Colley will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church in Muir with the Rev. Robert Girdwood officiating. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
