Collier, more familiarly known as “Happy” died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Beil, in Niles, Wednesday morning at 4:30 o’clock after a long illness. He was a former Ionia merchant and was in the meat and grocery business here for over thirty years. Born in Ottawa township, May 12, 1877, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward P. Collier, he moved to Ionia county with his parents while he was still a young boy. In 1902 he married Josephine Keener and her death occurred February 12, 1928. They had moved to Grand Rapids after he left the meat and grocery business in Ionia and it was there that she died. After her death he lived with his daughter and son-in-law in Grand Rapids and later moved with them to Niles. He was a former member of the Ionia Elks, Odd Fellows, Moose and a member of the Royal Arcanum. Surviving are, besides the daughter, his mother, Mrs. Mary M. Leviss and a sister, Daisy Collier, of Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Greenhoe funeral chapel in Grand Rapids. Rev. Kilpatrick of the Grand Rapids First Methodist church will officiate and interment will be at Highland Park cemetery in Ionia.
