Colter, 77, of Ionia, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2000, in Phoenix, Ariz. Thomas was born May 23, 1922, in Fredonia, N.Y., the son of Thomas A. and Anna (Hayward) Colter. He graduated from the Daycroft School in Stamford, Conn., and attended Central Michigan University. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 from Sampson Naval Base in New York and served three years on the heavy cruiser, the U.S.S. Boston in the Asiatic Pacific. He was married to Aline Glossi on Oct. 11, 1958. Tom is survived by his wife, Aline; one sister, Mary Colter Watt of Springfield, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ann Washburn. A memorial service for Thomas will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia, with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hall-Fowler Memorial Library of Ionia.
