Colwell, of 1090 West Main street, Ionia died unexpectedly Tuesday evening at Ionia County Memorial hospital. He was born July 18, 1922 in Saranac, the son of Albert and Bertha McCord Colwell. Married June 1, 1940 to Viva Freer, he was an electrical contractor until 1952. At the time of his death he was employed at Michigan reformatory, and previously served in World War II in the U.S. Navy, belonged to the Ionia Elks, American Legion and was past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wards post in Saranac. Survivors include his wife Viva, daughter Mrs. Delores Roberts of Ionia; two sons, Ray of Seattle, Wash., and Clair at home; a sister, Mrs. Mildred Moore of Traverse City and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home with Rev. Theodore Forbes of First Christian church officiating.
