Born in Clinton County, April 2, 1877, he was the son of John and Leila Comer and had spent most of his life in Palo, as a farmer. He was a member of the Farmer’s Union and attended the I.H.S. Mission in Ionia. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Rice in 1902 and she preceded him in death in 1938. Later, in 1939, he was remarried to Mary Font, who preceded him in death in 1953. Mr. Comer was also preceded in death by two daughters, Thelma Elizabeth Helms and Helen Lilia Bennett. Surviving are three sons, Russell John Comer, at home; Donald George Comer of Palo; Howard Joseph Comer of Norfolk, Va.; four step children, Olive Tracy of Grandville, Floyd Font of Ionia; Alfred Font of Adam and Brunson Font of California; one sister, Hattie Greenhoe of Fenwick; two brothers, Archie Comer of Elm Hall and George Comer of Ionia; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Boynton funeral home, Thursday afternoon, August 16 at 2 o’clock and interment will be in the Palo cemetery.
