Maxine Compagner, 86, of Saranac died March 4, 1997 in Grand Rapids.  She was
born June 19, 1910 in Keene Twp., the daughter of Louis and Carrie (Walker) Cahoon.

She was a graduate of Saranac High School.  She went on to become a teacher,
starting out in the rural area schools and then eventually returning to Saranac
Public Schools and also was the librarian at the school until she retired in
1973.  She was a member of the Saranac Community Church, member and Past Worthy
Matron of The Eastern Star.  She was a member of the NEA and Mea teaching
associations.  She married Ed Compagner June 6, 1932 in Angola, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Saranac Community Church
with Rev. Stanley Hagemeyer officiating.  Interment will be in Saranac Cemetery.
 Visitation will be Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.  Memorial contributions may be made to the
Saranac Community Church.
