James Heether, a neighbor, saw the tractor in the fence row and investigating found Compton lying nearby on the ground. A doctor who was called to the scene pronounced death had been instantaneous. The body was taken to Fitzjohn Funeral Home in Belding where services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00. Charley, son of Eber and Sarah Compton, was born July 3, 1879 in Keene township. He was one of nine children only one of whom survives, Mrs. Lyda Barr of Grand Rapids. Other survivors are nieces and nephews.
