Ionia Daily Sentinel, 17 Mar 1958

Mrs. Melvina Compton, 83, died Sunday at 12:30 a.m. at the Grand Valley nursing 
home, where she had been a patient since November.  She was born July 24, 1874 
in Gault, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Benjamin and Millicent Ward.  She 
came to Big Rapids and married Eugene Compton April 14, 1899.  They lived on a 
farm in Mecosta county for 45 years before moving to Ionia to live with their 
daughter, Miss Hazel Compton, in 1944.  Mr. Compton died in April of 1954.

Mrs. Compton is survived by her daughter Hazel of 433 Pleasant street and 
several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at Boynton’s funeral home Tuesday at 1 p.m.  The 
Rev. Heath Goodwin will officiate, and interment is to be in Pine Plains 
cemetery, Mecosta county.  The family will be at Boynton’s Monday from 7 to 9 
p.m. to receive friends.
