Compton, a long and respected citizen of Pewamo passed away at his home in the west part of the village last Thursday morn—death resulting from cancer of the stomach after an acute illness of some six weeks. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Baptist church, Rev. Johnson officiating. Interment was made in the family lot in East Plains cemetery. Nathan Fry Compton was born July 24th, 1848, at Bridgeport, Penn., and came with his parents when 18 years of age to Michigan, settling in Jackson county. He was married January 17th, 1882 to Miss Mary L. Hamilton at Ionia. To them were given six children, four of them passing away in infancy; two girls, Jessie and Lulu, and the wife and mother alone being left to mourn his departure into another world. The deceased also leaves three brothers and two sisters, only one of the brothers, Henry, of Palo being present at the obsequies. Mr. Compton has been a resident of this community for many years, was a hard working man, and his demise will cause a genuine feeling of regret among those who knew him.
