Smyrna, Feb. 9. Samuel Condon, a pioneer resident of Otisco township, died at his home near Smyrna Monday morning, Feb. 8, aged 82 years. Mr. Condon was born near Brantford, Canada, and, with his wife and child, moved to this township over fifty years ago, locating on the farm where they have since lived. To Mr. and Mrs. Condon were born twelve children, eight of whom are living. Two daughters, Mrs. Vina Swain, of California and Mrs. Bertha Buck, of Great Falls, Mont., and one son, Charles Condon, of Spring Brook, N. D., were not with their parents during the sickness of their father, the others with their families have all been in daily attendance at his bedside, with the exception of Mrs. Geo. Keller, of Boyne Falls, who arrived here last Saturday night. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at the Baptist church in Smyrna. Samuel Condon has always been a hard working, peaceful and respected citizen of our neighborhood. A just and upright man. His four-score years have been singularly blessed with good health and until last summer he never had occasion to employ a physician for himself. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mrs. Condon in this hour of her bereavement, when after so many years of wedded life she is left to mourn the loss of her companion. ---- Samuel C. Condon was born near Hamilton, Ontario, on October 22, 1828, and died at his home near Smyrna, Mich., on February 8, 1909, aged 81 years, three months and seventeen days. His early life was spent on the farm with his parents. On January 29, 1850, he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Hawley of Brantford, Ont. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are still living. Mr. Condon and family came to Michigan in 1857 and settled on a farm in Vergennes where they lived until 1877 when they moved to the farm in Otisco where they resided until the time of his death. On January 29, 1900, Mr. and Mrs. Condon celebrated the fiftieth, or golden, anniversary of their wedding, and had Mr. Condon lived another year he and his wife could have celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage. Deceased was a man of sterling integrity, a loving and considerate husband, a kind father and a good and obliging neighbor, always ready, when needful, to offer a helping hand. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his aged wife, Mrs. Maria Condon, four sons and four daughters, as follows: Mrs. S. P. Swain, of Descanso, California; Edgar and Elgin of Smyrna; Mrs. George Keeler of Boyne Falls, Mich.; Charles E. Condon, of Springbrook, North Dakota; Mrs. F. M. Buck of Great Falls, Montana; Mrs. Frank Tillotson and Frank E. Condon of Belding. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church in Smyrna, on Friday, February 12, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, conducted by Rev. N. J. Myers pastor of the Congregational church of Belding. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful, especially those provided by the Maccabees. Interment in Smyrna cemetery.
