Coney arrived in Ionia at noon today, in charge of Dr. J. M. Hathaway. The particulars of the real cause for the rash act of Mr. Coney, in taking his life, are not given out, and it is just as well that they be not. Suffice it to say he committed suicide by cutting his throat. The funeral will be attended from the family living rooms, over his late place of business, on Main street, at 2:30 p.m., on tomorrow. Friends wishing to view the remains can do so prior to the service; the casket will then be closed. Subsequent Publication: Tuesday, February 26, 1901 The large number of friends arriving from out of town made it, for the second time, necessary to change the place for holding the funeral service, and it was conducted this afternoon at the M. E. church. The mourning and sympathizing friends present were very many, the large audience room and gallery being thrown open. The casket was covered with a great profusion of flowers. The discourse was by the Rev. W. H. B. Urch. The music was by Mrs. Eugene Smith, Mrs. S. G. Allured, Misses Lucy and Christie Oliver—the Rosary quatette. The carriers were: A. E. Shelly, Glen B. Fleming, G. F. Faude, Fred Cutler Jr., W. F. Marquette, Jay Post. Interment was in Highland Park. Subsequent Publication: Saturday, March 2, 1901 J. B. Hathaway of Orion, who was in Ionia to attend the funeral of Henry G. Coney, and also as a visitor to his brother, Dr. J. M. Hathaway, has returned to his home. Subsequent Publication: Tuesday, March 5, 1901 A Note of Thanks. The kindly and helpful acts of friends were so many in our late bereavement, and tended so materially to soften the severity of our sorrow, that we feel it a duty in this way to extend our heartfelt thanks for the favors. We feel very grateful for the same. Mrs. Henry G.
