Esther N. Confer, 81, of 540 Blanchard Street, Muir, died Wednesday in Ionia 
County Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 4, 1903, in Bloomingdale, Mich., the daughter of John and 
Nellie Scamehorn and was married to Ross Confer in August 1921.

They moved to Muir where they lived all their married lives and operated Muir 
Hardware store until retirement in 1967. She served as Muir Village treasurer 
from 1949 to 1955. Her husband preceded her in death in 1977.

She attended Muir Christian Church.

Surviving are one son, Clare Confer of Muir; one daughter, Mrs. Wallace (June) 
Benner of Hastings; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; and a brother, 
Loren Scamehorn of Gulfport, Fla. 

Cremation has taken place and no services or memorial will be held.

A memorial has been established for the Intensive Care Unit of Ionia County 
Memorial Hospital, in care of Hull Memorial Chapel, Muir, which made 
arrangements.
