She was born May 20, 1873 in Orleans township, the daughter of William DeForrest Smith and Sarah Maria Wheeler Smith. Part of her early life was spent in Sheridan where her father operated a general store. Later she moved to Ronald township where she resided until 1911. In 1911 she and her mother moved to the Ira Wheeler farm at Orleans Center. She was married to George Conkey in 1924. He died in 1948. During her life she had traveled extensively to the West Coast, Florida, and the New England states. Mrs. Conkey was a member of the Orleans Center Methodist church and the W.S.C.S. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Clark Palmer of Orleans; two foster daughters, Mrs. Gerald Smith of Woodard Lake and Mrs. Ambrose Stoddard of Orleans and four foster grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday t 2 p.m. at the Fales-Hoffman funeral home in Belding with the Rev. Lester Clough officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Woodard Lake cemetery.
