The Portland Observer, November 29, 1893

Mary, wife of Henry Conklin of this township, died at the home of her mother, 
Mrs. Charles Mathews, in this village, on Saturday night last, she having come 
there some weeks ago to remain with her mother during her sister’s absence at 
the World’s fair.  She was taken sick but got better and made preparations to 
return home.  A relapse followed, however, resulting in her death.

Mrs. Conklin was 56 years of age and was married April 1854, having come to 
Portland in 1844.  She leaves three children, Annie, Cora and Kittie.  The 
funeral will be conducted from the Catholic church in Portland tomorrow, 
Wednesday, morning.

Mrs. Henry Conklin, of Portland, died on Sunday evening.  She was a daughter 
of Charles Mathews.  Mrs. Mathews, the widow of Charles and mother of 
deceased, is also very low, and not expected to survive.  Mr. Conklin is a 
brother of Mrs. A. W. Kimball.
