June 4, 2016 MARJORIE M. CONKLIN 1921-2016 Marjorie M. Conklin, 95, passed away Saturday May 21, 2016. Marjorie was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the youngest child of Fred and Sarah (Ream) Sanger.She grew up in Sheridan and Grand Rapids. On Dec. 29, 1940 she married Toivo "Ty" Conklin. During World War II, 1943-1945, while her husband was serving our country in Europe, Marjorie joined the work force as a "Rosie the Riveter" making gun sites and other war material at Irwin-Pederson Arms Co. in Grand Rapids. The couple made their home in Vickeryville before moving to Ionia in 1959. She was employed by first Security Bank as a teller and later as one of the first female loan officers. In 1977 the couple retired and moved to Zephyr Hills, Florida where they enjoyed many years. Ty proceeded her in death in July 1992. Marjorie is survived by her son, Ty E. (Barbara) of Charlevoix and daughter Mary Lee Gravel of Vicytoria, B.C., one grandson, Guy of Vancouver, B.C., along with numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
