The Ionia Standard, Friday, November 1, 1905
Mrs. Emma Conklin, wife of John Conklin Sr., died at her home on Rice Street 
Monday night after three months of intense suffering.  Deceased was the eldest 
daughter of Emery Newman, and was born in Westphalia, May 29, 1850; being 55 
years of age at time of death.  She was a devoted member of the Catholic 
church, and a beloved member of its societies.  Besides her husband she leaves 
to sons, Peter J. and John C. Jessel of this city; also an aged father, 
sisters and brothers and many friends to mourn her loss.  The funeral will be 
held at the Catholic church tomorrow morning at 9 o’clock.  Interment in the 
Catholic cemetery.
