The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, July 1992
Toivo R. “Ty” Conklin, 78, of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Ionia, died on 
Wednesday at a Charlevoix Hospital.  He was born on February 27, 1914 in Iron 
Belt, Wisconsin, the son of Alred Ranta and Hilma Johnson Conklin.  He married 
Marjorie M. Sanger on December 29, 1940 in Grand Rapids.

He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of 
the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post No. 5065 of Sheridan.  He retired as a captain 
from the Michigan Department of Corrections.  He moved to Zephyrhills in 1977.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Lee Gravel of Victoria, British Columbia; 
his son Ty Conklin of Charlevoix; and his grandson Malcolm.  He was preceded 
in death by his sister Bertha Nurmi and his brother Eugene R. Conklin.

Cremation has taken place.  Military graveside services will be 2 p.m. July 15 
at the Maple Ridge Cemetery, Vickeryville, with members of the Lester J. Sitts 
VFW Post No. 5065 officiating.
