Excerpts from Lansing Obituary
Eleanor "Ellie" Ruth Connell of Portland
Died April 25, 2021-age 97 in Holland, Michigan.
Born in Detroit July 31, 1923 to Ralph and Alma Jordan.
Married in 1949 to Arthur "Art" Connell.
Survived by two daughters, Dr. Kathleen Connell Peters and Dr Shannon Connell.
Ellie excelled in playing Rumikub, Bridge and Golf.
As a young woman was employed at the top level as an Executive Secretary for 
Ford motor Company, traveling to Chicago & other cities to enjoy the night life 
with her best friend of 88 years, Helen Wiley.
She was a top sales representative for McCall's Corporation.
Ellie enjoyed classical music, she was a "The Big City Girl, a standout in her 
beloved town of Portland.  
Was preceded in death by her husband "Art" Connell in 1994, sister, Gloria 
"Billie" Myers, brother Donald Jordan.
Survived by her two daughters, her son-in-law, Dr. Dave Peter, grandchildren 
Halley & David Peters, and Seraphino Licastro, nieces Dawn Rhodes and Robin 
Colleen, nephew Jordan Myers, grandnieces, Laurel Rhodes & Maddie Myers, 
grandnephews Kyle Rhodes & Zac Myers.
Private memorial services Friday May 21, 2021 at St.Andrews Lutheran church in 
Portland,MI. Luncheon to follow at the Red Mill. 
Burial at Glen Eden memorial Park in Livonia, Michigan.
Memorial Contributions to the Ionia County Animal Shelter, 3853 Sparrow Drive, 
Ionia, MI 48846, or the Portland District Library, 334 Kent Street, Portland,MI 
48875.
