Conner, 69, of 318 Pearl Street, Ionia died Thursday at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born Aug. 15, 1912, in Easton Township, the son of Dexter and Annan Stowell Conner. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1932 and started at the Ionia County Road commission in 1933, where he worked for 40 years. He retired as general foreman in 1973. He married Rose Kowatch on Aug. 15, 1934, in Ionia. They lived in Ionia, but moved to Holland Lake for four years after his retirement. They moved back to Ionia in 1977. He was a member of TPA. Surviving are his wife, Rose, one son, Samuel J. Conner of rural Ionia; one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Lucretia) Dowestt of Ionia; one sister, Mrs. George (Rhoda) Starr of LaGrange, Ill.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldon Schram, of Zion United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society and for emphysema.
