Conner was born in Oakland county, Michigan, June 5th, 1834. At the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Easton, Ionia county, where he lived until his death. At 20 years of age he was converted and united with the Congregational church. He has ever since held fast the profession of faith that he made in early manhood. He enlisted in the army during the war, serving his country as a soldier two years and ten months. Dec. 20, 1864, he was married to Miss Mary Hulin, who survives him. To them were born five children, two sons and three daughters, namely: Byron H., Wm. Brounson, Mrs. Libbie C. Haynor, Gertrude and Grace, all of whom survive him. He will be missed in the home circle, for in him they found a good husband and father. He was an earnest and faithful Christian, verifying God’s promise, “My Grace shall ber Sufficient for you.” With patience has he borne the long and wasting illness that God saw fit to permit to come upon him, and had waited until he heard that voice which said “Come up Higher.” At the commencement of their married life, he with his faithful wife erected the family altar in their home, which has ever since been maintained, and there has gone out such an influence from their Godly home that nearly all the dear children are following in the footsteps of him, who has heard the call of the Master and awaits them over the river. Brother Conner will be missed in the neighborhood. He was always ready to give an encouraging word, and to help any good cause in any way possible. He passed peacefully away Monday morning, Jan. 21, aged 60 years, 7 months and 16 days. The funeral of W. H. Conner, whose obituary appears elsewhere, was held at the Congregational church in Easton, on Thursday, Jan. 24, the services being conducted by Rev. W. E. Ogden, and attended by twenty-eight members of Wm. H. Borden post, of which deceased was a member. He served as a member of Co. E, 1st Mich. Eng. and Mech. He was a pioneer resident of Easton, and widely known and respected. A card: Mrs. WM. H. Conner and children wish to return thanks to the G.A.R. of Ionia for their presence at the funeral of their husband and father; also for the beautiful flowers which they presented. They also thank their neighbors for many acts of kindness and willing assistance.
