The Ionia Daily Standard Thursday, August 20, 1903 VIRGIL G. CONNER A Life Long Resident and Veteran of the Civil War Passes Away. While the pioneers of Ionia county were in annual session, of Wednesday, Virgil G. Conner, who was born in the county 61 years ago and had made his home here all his life, passed quietly away at his home in Easton. He was the son of Thos. Harrison Conner, and was born Nov. 10, 1842, his father coming to the county in 1835. Deceased had been in poor health for some time, but had only been confined to the house a few weeks. He served as a member of Co. K. 21st infantry, during the civil war, and was in all battles in which that regiment had part. He was wounded in the side at battle of Chicamauga, but soon returned to duty, and made the march to the sea with Sherman. He was faithful as a soldier, aas he was to his conceptions of duty as a citizen and neighbor. He was active in politics and interested in most matters of public concern, and had the respect and confidence of a wide circle of friends. He leaves a wife, but no children.
