Conrad, 72, of Ionia, passed away at his home Tuesday evening, Dec. 31, 2002, after a brief illness. George was born Jan. 24, 1940 in Englewood, N.J., the son of Christian and Carrie Conrad. George was a Korean War Veteran and served his country from 1947 through 1954 in the U.S. Army. He worked at the Handlon Michigan Training Unit for several years and retired as a lieutenant from the Deerfield Temporary Facility in 1990. He was very active in the Easton United Methodist Church where he served as a board member and a lay-leader. He married Renate (Keller) in Conraddin, Germany, on October 10, 1953. George is survived by his wife, Renate; three sons, Gerald Conrad, Roy (Debra) Conrad, and Gordon (Susan) Conrad, all of Ionia; one daughter Brenda (Tim) Patterson, of Lowell; and six grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home in Ionia. Funeral and Committal services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from the Easton United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Otis officiating. Interment will take place in Easton Cemetery.
