The Ionia Standard, Friday, February 15, 1895

Mrs. Cook, mother of Mrs. Frank L. Taylor, died on Thursday, at the residence 
of James N. Taylor, Lafayette street.  Her age was 61.

The funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Cook were largely attended Saturday p.m., 
at the residence of James N. Taylor, Lafayette street.  Rev. J. T. Ostoby, 
D.D., officiated, and made some appropriate remarks, during which he spoke of 
a peculiar coincidence, deceased being connected in early life with a church, 
over which he had subsequent charge, in the early years of his ministry.  The 
singing was by Mrs. L. P. Brock and Miss Laura Tompkins.

There was a profusion of beautiful flowers, in set pieces and loose, from 
friends in Detroit and Ionia.  The bearers were George W. Cook, Frank L. 
Taylor, James N. Taylor and F. A. Stiven.  Interment in Oakhill cemetery.

Sarah Woodard was born in Erie, Penn., Jan. 12, 1834, where she was married to 
Hiram Cook.  They came to Ionia in 1861, and moved from here to Detroit in 
1878, where Mr. Cook died.  Mrs. Cook returned to Ionia about two years ago, 
taking the place of housekeeper in the domicile of Jas. N. Taylor, after the 
death of his wife.  She had been a resident of Ionia for about twenty years, 
and was known to many of our citizens, by whom she was highly esteemed for her 
excellent trait of character.  She leaves three children: Charles, residing in 
Montana; George W., of Detroit and Mrs. Frank L. Taylor, of this city.
