Mrs. Ethel M. Cook, 73, of Ionia passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999 at 
Heartland Health Care Center in Ionia.  She was born April 6, 1926 in Ionia, 
the daughter of Ernest and Sarah (Nelson) Fountain.  She graduated from Ionia 
High School in 1944 and lived in Ionia her entire life.  She married Richard 
E. Cook on Oct. 21, 1967, and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1991.

Ethel worked at the catalog center at Sears in Ionia, and she was the catalog 
supervisor at J.C. Penney in Ionia until her retirement.  Her interests 
centered around her children, grandchildren and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Jim (Lynn) Ross of Kalamazoo and Ernie (Lorraine) 
Ross of Ionia; daughter, Linda (Rick) Steele of Ionia; daughter-in-law, Cathy 
Ross of Kent, Wash.; stepson, Vaughn (Patsy) Cook of Rothbury; stepdaughter, 
Carol Baitinger of Sunfield; 12 grandchildren, and one brother, Albert (Peggy) 
Fountain of Ionia.  She was preceded in death by her son, Dan Ross, and her 
brother, Fay Fountain.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Cook Funeral Home, 
Ionia, with the Rev. David Weber and Mr. Tim Ross officiating.  Interment will 
follow in Easton Cemetery.  Visiting hours are Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 
p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel of the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.  Memorial 
contributions can be made to Ionia area Hospice in care of Cook Funeral Home.
