Cook, age 79, of North Port, Florida, died on Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his home in North Port. He was a resident since 1984 from Ionia, where he retired as a Corrections Officer from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was born on December 27, 1920, in Nebraska, to William and Agnes Cook. He attended the Trinity Methodist Church, in North Port, was a veteran of WWII as a member of the US Marine Corps, and was awarded the Purple Heart, for his valiant service. He was a member of the DAV, in North Port, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 58 years, Madeline (Schmidt) Cook, who passed on February 5, 1999. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; Lee and Linda Cook, of North Port, FL and Ionia, Ralph and Joanne Cook, of Lansing, and Derryl and Jaunita Cook, of North Port, FL; eight grandchildren, Lisa, George, Curtis, Tammy, Christine, Michael, Karris and Kristen; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; Carol and Kenneth Frisbie, of Harbor Springs, and brothers-in-law, Gordon and Millie Schmidt, and Earl and DeLynn Schmidt, all of Ionia. Funeral arrangements and cremation handled by Charlotte Memorial Funeral Home, Punta Gorda, Florida. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Tuttle Cemetery in Ionia.
