Cook, 68, of Ionia died Tuesday at his home. He was born the son of Grover H. and Reva M. Watkins Cook on Dec. 1, 1922, in Lake Odessa. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II.. He was a member of the Saranac American Legion, the Sheridan V.F.W. Post, the Ionia Fishing and Hunting Club, and a member of the State Employees Retirement Association. He worked for 26 years at the Michigan Reformatory. Surviving are his wife Ethel; one son, Vaughn Cook of Rothbury; one daughter, Carol Baitinger of Sunfield; three step-sons, Dan Ross of Kent, Wash., Jim Ross of Kalamazoo and Ernie Ross of Ionia; one step-daughter, Linda Steele of Ionia; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his mother Reva M. Cook of Lake Odessa; three sisters, Charlotte Sumney of Schoolcraft, Dorothy Frey and Marilyn Nicholson, both of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and his twin brother Robert. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia, with the Rev. George Speas officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
