October 29, 2021 Excerpts from Lansing Obituary James Leonard Cook Died Wednesday October 27, 2021 Born in Pewamo the 8th of 13 children, the son of Oscar & Dora (Wolscheid) Cook. James lived in Lansing most of his life. He served the the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of WW II. He married Marcia Jean, September 28, 1948. Jim & Jean owned & operated the landmark West side, Dexter Hardware, with their sons for over 50 years. Jim enjoyed daily walks in the Hawk Meadows Park, car rides in the country and working outside on his lawn. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Bernita Fedewa, Isabelle Wilson, Angela Coonrod, Dorothy Golata, Ella Thelen, Cay DeYoung, and Marcia Cook; brothers, Donald Cook, Roy Cook and David Cook; son-in-law, Doug Ferris. Survived by his loving wife, Jean (Davarn); children, Ellen (Bruce) Buysse, Beth Cook, Jim Cook, Carol(Mike) Farrell and Dan (Diana) Cook; grandchildren, Sam Nakfoor, Rory Bowers, Chasity Fudella, April Holman, Trinity Farrel, Sarah Gray, Joshua Buysse, Emily Buysse and Maggie Farrell-Poshedly; sister, Jenny Trier (Robert) Weber; brother,Leon (Jeanne) Cook; sister-in-law, Barb Cook and Rosemary Davarn, many nieces & nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will take place,Monday, November 1,2021, 10:00 AM at St.Mary Cathedral with Rev. Karl Pung as celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Visitation Saturday, October 30, form 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday at the church one hour prior to the mass. Special Thank You to Physician Assistant, Eman Issawi and nurses and staff at the Karmanos cancer Institute, McLaren Greater Lansing Hospital nurses and staff 2 South East. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Karmanos Cancer Institute of McLaren Great Lansing in memory of Jim.
