Cook, aged 76 years, at his home in Ionia on Sunday and not only ended more than three years of serious illness but along with it ended the career of a splendid, popular and well liked citizen who had served the people of this country for a period of four years as sheriff and then as under-sheriff to his successor in office, for another period of six years. Mr. Cook was born at Allegan and came to Ionia when he was 22 years of age to take a position as guard at the Michigan reformatory, a position which he held for six years and then was advanced to the post of record clerk, which he held for 27 years, when he resigned from the reformatory post to enter business for himself. Surviving are the widow, Blanche, and the following children by his former marriage: Ora H. Cook, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Otis F. Cook, of East Lansing; Millard J. Cook, of Washington, D.C., and Holden Cook of Ronald township, and two daughters, Mrs. Marion Robinson and Mrs. George R. Banhagel, both of Ionia. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Ionia on Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Wayne Davis, pastor of the church, officiating and burial was in Highland Park cemetery in Ionia.
