He was born on September 3, 1925 in Pewamo, MI the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Wohlsheid) Cook. Mr. Cook was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, a member of the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090, as well as a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. Tom worked for Portland Public Schools in maintenance, retiring after 33 years of service. He was a hard worker, even driving school buses and managing apartments to help put his 6 daughters through St. Patrick Catholic School. Tom loved camping, fishing, hunting and playing cards. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Marie; and 6 siblings. Surviving are his 6 daughters, Nancy (John) Costello, Barbara (Rick) Davison, Donna Cook, Diane (Tom) Hoban, Denise (Pete) Weeks, and Sharon Cook; 17 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; “special daughter”, Laura (Doug) Willemin. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2015 at Lehman Funeral Homes, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
