Ionia Sentinel Standard, 21 Nov 1984

Bernita Schrauben Cook, 86, of Ionia died early Tuesday in St. Lawrence
Hospital, Lansing.  She was born in Westphalia Township, Clinton County, August
1, 1898, the daughter of John and Mary Miller Pung.

She attended St. Mary’s School in Westphalia and married Christopher Schrauben
in Westphalia Sept. 23, 1919.  He preceded her in death Oct. 22, 1946.  A son,
David, also preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1967.

She lived 22 years in Ionia before marrying Oscar Cook in Pewamo June 4, 1955. 
They made their home on the Cook farm for 24 years until his death March 8,
1979.  After his death, she returned to live in Ionia.  She was a member of SS.
Peter and Paul Church, Daughters of Isabella, and Our Lady of Fatima and Our
Lady of Lourdes rosary circles.

Surviving are four sons, Norbert Schrauben of Belding, Maurice Schrauben of East
Lansing and Paul Schrauben of Jackson; five daughters, Mrs. Donald (Mary Ann)
Hoy of Saginaw, Beatrice Gray of Lansing, Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Hofmann of
Kawkawlin, Mrs. Patrick (Therese) Lawless of Traverse City, Mrs. Gayle (Bernita)
Miller of Grand Ledge.  Also surviving are 42 grandchildren, 16 great
grandchildren, 55 step-grandchildren, 39 step-great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be Friday at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Church.  Burial
will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  Parish rosary will be said Wednesday at Leddick
Funeral Home at 8 p.m.  The family will be at Leddick Funeral Home Wednesday
from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.  A memorial for
SS. Peter and Paul School has been established, in care of the funeral home.
