Reva M. (Watkins) Cook, 101, of Lake Odessa passed away Wednesday, November 
12, 1997 at TenderCare Riverside of Battle Creek.  She was born on June 15, 
1896 in Ionia County, the daughter of John and Althea Watkins.  She married 
Grover H. Cook on May 15, 1917.  He preceded her in death on November 16, 
1958.  

She resided at her farm home in Lake Odessa for 76 years until January of 1995 
when, because of poor health, she moved to the Battle Creek area.  She was 
devoted to her family and the enjoyment of her home.  Reading and meticulous 
care of her houseplants were of great interest.  In 1993, Mrs. Cook was one of 
the 15 oldest Michigan mothers who participated in the “Salute to Michigan 
Mother” and was honored at the State Capitol in Lansing.  Additionally, she 
was recognized in various parades in Lansing, Ionia and Lake Odessa. 

She was preceded in death by three sons, twin sons Robert D. Cook in 1960 and 
Richard E. Cook in 1991 and Don J. Cook in 1987; and one son-in-law, Robert E. 
Bishop.  Mrs. Cook is survived by three daughters, Charlotte B. (Maurice 
D. “Suds”) Sumney of Schoolcraft, Dorothy M. (C. James) Frey and Marilyn D. 
(Robert G.) Nicholson both of Battle Creek; 17 grandchildren; 37 great 
grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 14, 1997 at the Koops Funeral 
Chapel in Lake Odessa.  Burial took place at Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa.  
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
