Cook, of Portland, age 71, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007. He was born on Feb. 9, 1936 in Ionia the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Wohlscheid) Cook. Robert was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling, dancing, farming and spending time on the boat down by the river. He was known for working hard and playing hard. Robert was proud to have worked at Fisher Body in Lansing. He is preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Cook. Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Helen; children, Bruce (Carrie) Cook, Sandy (Luke) Cook, Steven Cook and Susan (Jim) Nurenberg; grandchildren, Katherine, Aliesha and Valarie; brothers, Leon Cook, Ray Cook and Tom Cook; sisters, Larrine Esch and Stella Degrazio and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. on Thursday and a Scriptural Wake Service will be prayed at 8 p.m., Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Boiler Fund in Robert's name.
