Mrs. Mattie J. Cool, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10 p.m. at the home of 
Margaret Lighbody of Muir who had been nursing her during a three months 
illness.  She had made her home for the past 21 years with her son-in-law and 
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood M. Brake, of 733 East Main street.

She was born Mattie J. Waterman on June 27, 1860.  On Oct. 7, 1877, she married 
John P. Cool of Campbell.  They lived on a farm in that township until his 
death Oct. 29, 1915.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Brake; four grandchildren; and five great-
grandchildren.  A son died in infancy.

Prayer services will be conducted at the Brake home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.  
Funeral services will be held at the Beattie funeral home in Clarksville at 2 
p.m. Tuesday.  The Rev. F.G. Dunbar of Grand Rapids, former pastor of the Ionia 
First Methodist church, will officiate.  Interment will be in Clarksville 
cemetery.
