Mr. Cooley was born in Plymouth, Mich., March 18, 1950, which would make him nearly 61 years of age at the time of his death. He had spent all of his life in this state. He came to Portland at the age of 18 and has resided in this village constantly since that time. Forty years ago Mr. Cooley was united in marriage to Miss Flora Jenkins, daughter of the late Palmer Jenkins, who survives him. Three children were born to this union, a daughter dying in infancy. The two children who are left to mourn his death are Mrs. Floyd Todd and Dee Cooley, both residents of this village. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Todd Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, conducted by Rev. D. E. Millard, and burial was made in Portland cemetery. Deceased was well known all over this territory by nearly everyone as a trader of horses, and might be likened to David Harem, of play and story book fame. He followed that occupation for many years and it was known that he made considerable money in many deals. He was honest and had a large circle of friends who deeply regret his death.
