Portland Observer, 16 Jan 1884

Peter Coon, Mrs. James Monroe’s father, residing with her and her husband died 
Sabbath morning at 2 a.m.  Mr. Coon was 77 years of age.  His birth place was in 
Pennsylvania.  He has been engaged in merchandising and more recently in the real 
estate business in Chicago.  He was a man of fine social qualities of wide 
reading and has been all his life a consistent member of the Presbyterian 
church.  His funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G. W. Bothwell on Monday 
of this week.
