E. Cottingham Wednesday announced the death of Mrs. George S. Cooper, in Detroit, Tuesday night. She was stricken with paralysis Tuesday morning and was unable to rally from the shock. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper came to Ionia in 1860 when Mr. Cooper opened the dry goods salesroom known as “New England Store”. For 25 years or more he was among the most prominent business men of the town, and was active in politics and in all matters affecting public interests. Mrs. Cooper was as energetic and prominent in her sphere of action as her husband and was recognized as a woman of unusual force of character and with social tact and charm that made her widely known and highly esteemed. Mr. Cooper retired from business in Ionia ten years or more ago and he and Mrs. Cooper went to Montana where Mr. Cooper died about three years ago. Mrs. Cooper was here some months during past year and derived much pleasure in meeting with old time friends. For some months she has been staying at the home of her adopted son, Robert G. Cooper in Detroit where the final summons came. Remains will be brought to Ionia for interment arriving on Friday at 12:40 p.m. by Pere Marquette and taken to Highland Park. Funeral service will be in Detroit.
