Aug. 25, 1984 JOHN D. COOPER BELDING - John D. Cooper, 83, of 522 S. Broas Street, Belding, died Friday morning at the Belding Christian Nursing Home. He was born January 18,1901, in Otisco Township, Ionia County. He was a graduate of Belding High School in 1919, and a graduate of The University of Michigan in 1927. He was involved in education at Flint Public Schools, and Baker Business University from 1927 to 1945. He was the manager of Belding Savings and Loan from 1945 to 1965. At General Motors Institute, he was coordinator of the armed Forces training program during World War II. He was also one of the original committee members in the Organization and formation of the Mott Foundation in Flint. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club, and a lifetime member of Belding Masonic Lodge 255. He was also active in civic affairs. He is survived by his wife, Abby White Cooper, his sister Katherine Schraber, of Texas, and nephews. Masonic Services will be Sunday at 7:30 under the auspices of the Belding Lodge 355 F & A.M. The funeral service will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Hoffman Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Otisco Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, American Cancer Society, or the Church of God.
