The son of Maxine Eva (DeHart) & Clyde Cooper Jr. he was born on April 15, 1944 in Ionia where he gradated from Ionia High School. After high school Larry worked at Oldsmobile until being drafted with the U.S. Army in 1967. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Larry served two tours in 1967 and 1968 Larry proudly served his country and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal ad the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Following his honorable discharge, he joined his father at Cooper's Plumbing & Heating on Main Street in Ionia, until he began his career with the Michigan Department of Corrections as a Master Plumber retiring after 45 years in the trade.Larry also established his own business, Larry's Plumbing and Mechanical, under which he served his community with many new construction projects and plumbing repairs. On December 12, 1988,, in Las Vegas, Nevada he married Veronica Lee (Warner) and together enjoyed nearly 33 years of marriage.Larry was a member of the American Legion Post 203 of Belding, VFW of Lyons, Moose of Ionia and Eagles of Greenville. Larry was also a member of Bikes and trikes Wednesday Nights Charity Organization which he took great pride in riding his Harley Trike to numerous charity events. Larry was an outdoorsman, avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed traveling, boating, camping and just being out in nature. Larry preferred the challenge of hunting with a long bow whenever possible. His desire for more challenging hunts took him to places like Wyoming, Alaska and Canada to hunt big game, which he returned with many trophies As an avid fisherman he enjoyed fishing of all types and in all different bodies of water from the Great Lakes, inland lakes, rivers and streams. Larry loved to teach others his skills of both hunting and fishing especially his grandchildren and children. Larry was also very adventurous, he enjoyed the thrill of roller coasters, snorkeling in the tropics and on his 70th birthday went sky diving. He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Cooper in 1988; his father,Clyde Cooper, Jr. in 2018; and a daughter-in-law, Julie Walczak-Beers in 2021. Surviving are his wife, Veronica Cooper of Ionia; his son, Steve (Holly) Cooper of Lake Odessa; step-children, Jeff Beers of Leslie, and Tim(Amy) Beers of Onondaga; nine grandchildren, Shawn Cooper, Shelby (Dakotah) Neal, Jeffery Beers, Bailey Miller, Jordan Beers, Savanna Baughan, Danny Haught, Karen (Seth) VanHorssen, and Sara (Carl) Wolf; a brother and five sisters,Linda (Don) Cooper, Marcia (Jack) Van Drie, Carol Telfor, Ron (Sue) Cooper, Nancy (Dewey)Badder, and Cathy (Steve) Lowery; in-laws, Pat (Bruce) Worden,Debbie (Jim) Urie and Colleen Warner; many nieces, nephews, and special friends; and his special cat companions. The family invites relatives and friends to celebrate Larry's life beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 13, 2021 at Gregory's Steel Street Hall located at 115 S.Steel St. Ionia, MI 48846, with military honors being rendered at 1:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, contributions in memory of Larry are suggested to Bikes and Trikes Wednesday Night (Domestic Nonprofit Charity) located at 174 E.David Hwy., Ionia MI 48846, Fraternal Order of Eagles located at 11690 SW Greenville Rd, Greenville, MI 48838 or American Legion Post 203 located at 121 S.
