Cooper, 66, of Belding, died Sunday evening, Dec. 23, 2007 at his home under the loving care of this family and Spectrum Health Hospice. Gary was born April 25, 1941 in Belding the son of Milton and Ethel Talbot Cooper. Gary graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1960. Gary proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam war and was a police officer for many years in the City of Belding retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 203 in Belding. Gary had a great love for his family, his church and the Belding community. Gary was genuine as a police officer and helped countless people while living up to the motto "to protect and serve". Gary was married on June 24, 1967 to Carol Cahill and she preceded him in March 27, 2003. Gary was also preceded by his parents and one infant son, Gary. Gary is survived by his sons, Dean Cooper of Houston, Texas and Jason (Marci) Cooper of Belding and his grandchildren, Tyler and Gracie Cooper. Gary is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Kay Jeppeson of Belding, Kent (Maria) Cooper of Otsego, Dennis Cooper of N.C., Pat (Jean) Cooper of Greenville, Beth (Ken) Taylor of Greenville, Joseph (Sue) Cooper of Belding and John (Linda) Cooper of Greenville, along with many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Belding with Father George Darling presiding. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary prayed at 8 p.m. at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Church or Cooper Education Scholarship Fund (at Independent Bank).
