Bennett lib@dogsbark.com May 19, 2010, 8:05 pm Ionia Sentinel Standard COPE, DALE RUSSELL: IONIA SENTINEL STANDARD, MI, April, 1980: "DALE R. COPE - IONIA - Dale R. Cope, 58, of 720 Chapman St., died Sunday evening in Butterworth Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born Oct. 28, 1921 in Ionia, the son of Franklin and Edna (Smith) Cope. Mr. Cope attended Ionia schools. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard, and left with Company H in World War II. He went on to serve with the U. S. Army in New Guinea with Company H, 126th infantry, 32nd Red Arrow division, and was discharged in 1946. He returned to Ionia after the war, and worked for the department of corrections for over 30 years. At the time of his illness, he was power plant engineer at Michigan Reformatory. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons, David of Big Rapids, Russell of Ionia, and Jeffery at home; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Susan) Montgomery, Jr., Ionia, Lindsy, Ionia and Julia at home; his father, Russell of Vickeryville and five grandchildren. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church and the Lester J. Pitts Post 5065 Sheridan V. F. W. Funeral mass will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the SS Peter Paul Church, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Scriptural wake service will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Leddick Funeral Home. Friends may call on the family at the home Tuesday and Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to SS Peter and Paul Church, and left at the funeral home."
