Ionia County News, Thurs., Oct. 31, 1935
Jack M. Coppens, 27, of Muir met death in a car crash during a heavy fog shortly 
after midnight Wednesday, on the Portland cutoff road near Lyons.

His car plunged off the road into a ditch, and pinned him underneath, but help 
didn't arrive in time to recover him from the wreckage and a possible chance of 
saving his life.

Upon the investigation of Sheriff Herbert A. Ross and Coroner Harry Myers, it 
was found that Coppens died of head hemorages and a broken neck.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Coppens 
stepfather on State Road. Rev. Ellis of Belding will officiate and interment 
will be made in Woodard Lake cemetery.
