He was born in Lake Odessa, Michigan on January 20, 1947 to Charles and Theda Coppess. Robert graduated from Lakewood High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970; his duty included service in Vietnam as part of the first Infanrty Division from 1968 to 1969. Robert was a highly skilled individual who worked and volunteered in a variety of situations, most recently as a maintenance and construction volunteer at Sunnycrest Youth Ranch in Sunfield and Grace Adventures in Silver Lake. Robert leaves his loving son Chad and daughter-in-law Tricia of Montague, Michigan and his loving daughter Nicole Zimmerman and son-in-law Jason of Fremont, Michigan; seven grandchildren: Andrew, Zachary, Tyler, Alyssa, Amber, Caitlin and Cale; devoted niece Sandy Parks of Portland, Oregon; siblings Lynda Smith of Woodland, Charles Richard of Lansing, Mary Hokanson of Vermontville, Ron Lynn of Lake Odessa, Margaret “Peggy” Coppess of Colorado, and Jennifer Coppess of South Dakota; and several other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday January 20th, at 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Church Sunfield United Brethren Church. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at Sundield United Brethren with Charles Matthew Coppess officiating.
